Opening one photograph is different from completing production every week. Large selections, layered corrections, high-resolution video, exports, and backups turn waiting time into a limit on finished inventory.
Choose the heaviest task that repeats.
Identify the recurring load that matters: rapid review of large raw files, multi-image retouching, long-form playback, color work, or repeated export.
Prioritize the stage that stops every week over an exceptional process used once a year.
Test with the actual media and software.
Use representative resolution, codec, duration, corrections, and application settings. Run ingest, navigation, playback, and export instead of relying on a compatibility claim.
If video requires proxies, include the time and storage needed to create and manage them.
Include memory and working storage.
Opening many assets and tools can exhaust memory. Source media, caches, previews, and temporary renders also need fast working space and adequate free capacity.
Design internal storage, external drives, connection speed, and backup together rather than asking the computer alone to solve the archive.
Judge the system by time to finished work—not by the longest specification list.
Treat the display, ports, and network as production components.
A useful display, card and drive connections, stable upload path, and required peripheral support all affect throughput.
A workflow concentrated through one adapter or port can become fragile even when the processor is fast.
Improve the measured bottleneck first.
Before replacing everything, measure whether delays come from memory pressure, working storage, connection speed, media format, caching, or export settings.
Sometimes a storage or workflow change solves the problem. When new hardware is needed, buy against the stage that evidence identified.
Run before buying
- Ingest representative media
- Perform the normal selection and corrections
- Play the demanding video mode
- Export the finished deliverable
- Continue through storage, backup, and submission preparation
